Area Information
Our hotel is located in the center of the city of Angels Camp. Well established as a city of commerce
and government center during the California Gold Rush, it is now the perfect starting point on your
trip through the Motherlode. We’re ideally located on the convergence of state highways 4 and 49 making
Angels Camp the gateway to the Columbia State Historic Park and Jamestown to our southeast. To the
northeast take a relaxing walk through the giant sequioa’s at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Located
only nine miles away is the town of Murphys where their historic main street will cater to your shopping
needs or stop in at one of their various wineries including the award winning Ironstone Vineyards.
Calaveras County has access to four lakes, the closest to Angels Camp being the New Melones Reservoir with miles of cultivated trails for your walking or biking pleasure. Or, if you prefer, you can try your hand at gold panning in the Mokelumne river.
The region is naturally abundant in caves, several of them available for you to tour including: Moaning Caverns, California Caverns at Cave City, and the Mercer Caverns. Many of these caverns have a long and fascinating history, which ties directly into the gold rush era. For our winter travelers Angels Camp is the closest incorporated city to the Bear Valley Mountain Resort. We’re the closest location for the city amenities you’ll look forward to after a day on the mountain.
